100 reasons to mindmap

I am often asked about mindmapping by people who have never tried it.  Why would they want to do it, etc?  I've just found come across this great article from Mind Map Inspiration, called 100 reasons to mind map, so this is a useful place to look for ideas about how it can be used.

And, if you are looking for some mind mapping tools to get started, then Bubbl.us, a free collaborative online mind mapping tool is currently the highest ranking mind mapping tool on our op 100 Tools for Learning list.

Vidal Sassoon Hair Styling Videos

Heikki Paulaharju, a Senior Designer at JABA Multimedia Design in Australia,emailed to tell me about this site that he designed:

"This would be a nice example of eLearning as a commercial solution for hairdressers/people who want to know how they can improve their skills in that area. I noticed, that you had one example on daily picks about cooking... So this would be a continuum.

"Click on the chevron, that says: “Hair styling wizard”, underneath the VS Sassoon logo. It opens up a wizard and at the end it brings up a video instructions and proposed tools to achieve the style."

Lily Leadbetter Fair Pay Act: Free E-Learning Module

Steve Rayson, a partner at Kineo, told me about the free e-learning module they have created on the Lilly Ledbetter fair Pay Act in the US.  It was one of the first Acts that Obama introduced and they are keen to help promote the principles of the Act

Apparently, 7% of US companies have had more than 20 wage and hour lawsuits filed against them, and a third of all publicly held organizations and 17% of private organizations have had lawsuits of at more than $20m at issue.

The Kineo E-Learning module allows organizations to provide learning to all their employees on the implications of the new Fair Pay Act, and Kineo are giving it away to organisations in the US with the files so they can add their logo and change text as they want.

VideoJug

When people think of video sharing sites, they, in the main, automatically tend to think of YouTube.  But here's another well regarded video site, that is growing fast: VideoJug.

There have been some big developments recently including a re-brand, site re-design, introduction of articles, an improved community area, and a huge increase in the video library (now over 100,000). 
So if you haven't visited it, it's time to take a look:

Eduset

WIll Johnson emailed to tell me about Eduset, a new online classroom collaboration tool. Eduset provides a way for teachers to share assignments, news, files, and other content with their classes, without requiring them to code their own class websites.

Rouxbe: Online Video Cookery School

I've posted about Rouxbe last year, but have just received an email saying they have just turned one this month and are now in 180 countries.

Rouxbe is the web's first-ever online video cooking school complete with practice video recipes, cooking exercises, culinary quizzes, progress reporting and personal chef support.

For me, Rouxbe, is one of the best, if not the best example of the use of video in learning, so even if you don't like cooking, you should take a look at this site.  Even better, is the fact that you can now set up a free account. 

Here's just a taster of the quality of the video, although you need to access the site to see the exercises, quizzes, discussions etc.

Deeper Web

I missed a Pick of the Day posting on Wednesday, so here's another one for today.

DeeperWeb is a free search engine tool for Google users that allows navigating through search results by employing Tag Cloud techniques.  Additional technologies such as Topic-Mapping methods are implemented to assist users in identifying relevant results upon a specific topic.
