Andy Beggan from Nottingham University send me an update about the Xerte project.
Firstly, the Xerte project team were co-winners of the ALT Learning Technologist of the year award 2009. So congratulations to them! You can find out more about the award here.
Secondly, one
of the recent developments for the Xerte project is the recent release of the
Xpert website (beta). This is a JISC funded rapid innovation project (summer 2009)
to explore the potential of delivering and supporting a distributed repository
of e-learning resources created and seamlessly published through the open
source e-learning development tool, Xerte Online Toolkits. The aim of XPERT is
to progress the vision of a distributed architecture of e-learning resources
for sharing and re-use. Creators of learning resources can also contribute to
XPERT via RSS feeds created seamlessly through local installations of Xerte
Online Toolkits. Xpert has been fully integrated into Xerte Online Toolkits,
enabling users to publish open content easily, but also where permissions allow
to easily edit and re-use interactive multimedia content through Xerte Online
Toolkits.
You can find out more about Xpert here.
Hi Jane,
When I first was introduced to the concept of hyperlinks in the early 1990's, I couldn't really grasp their significance. I have the same feeling about Xpert-- but I'll be it will be big!
Thanks for the link -- Marge

It turns out that I have wrong in my belief that elearning tools are no good as a learning management system, as I have been thinking since I heard of the concept. I was thinking that all these e-learning tools taught the learners were how not to interact with others and simply confine themselves to their learning tasks, since the electronic mode in which e-learning solutions come work were seemingly designed to be learned by individuals in the privacy of their own homes or work stations, since this learning management system is particularly geared to provide individuals with a learning tool that can be adjusted to their preferences and pace.
